In my last post, I spoke about the Everydollar App. I talked about why I love it. How exactly I use it, and challenged you to download the app and fill out your first monthly budget. If you haven’t read that post, here’s a link to it.
Today, I want to share with you the breakdown of recommended percentages that each financial category should fall into.
One of the biggest questions I had when I first started using Everydollar was…
“What should my percentages be? What is normal?”
I took a screenshot of Rachel Cruze’s (Dave Ramsey’s daughter’s) recommended percentages that I try to live by as much as possible.
Today’s challenge is to pull up the budget you created in the Everydollar App and compare your percentages to these. If you are a little off here or there, it’s not a big deal, but if one of your categories is more than double of one of these recommended ranges, maybe you need to reevaluate how you are budgeting in that category.
I think it is very rare for people to actually know their numbers, and in times of financial crisis, like COVID-19, knowing your numbers can save you.
When my manager called me into his office and told me my hours were going to be cut at work for a few weeks during this crisis, I didn’t have to spend the whole day stressing out like most of my coworkers. I knew my numbers off the top of my head. I knew the amount of money I absolutely needed per month to live and exactly how much was in my savings to bail me out if I needed it.
**This is applicable in your personal finances and in your business finances.**
Knowing my numbers gave me such peace of mind in this uncertain time.
It may take you a few months to figure out your numbers, as things can change month to month, but I encourage you to start doing the math. One of my favorite pastor’s always says,
“We are either coming out of a storm, going through a storm, or the storm is on it’s way.”
That may sound pessimistic, but it’s just life. Hannah and I truly believe God is with us through every stage of the storm, but we have to still do our part. We need to be preparing for the storm in the best of times so we can handle it in the worst of times.
