The first two weddings that Chelsea and I captured included two different types of weather…. Rain and Snow. Needless to say, we were both nervous because it was an added challenge.

We knew it was going to rain and snow a few days before each wedding, so we had time to plan. For any wedding day, we always recommend checking the forecast several days in advance, so you know what to plan for. Here are some of our tips for how we handled both the rain and the snow.

For Rain:

1.     Bring clear umbrellas for the entire bridal party.

2.     Use awnings and overhangs for pictures.

3.     Protect your gear with rain sleeves.

For Snow:

1.     Bring hand warmers for you and the bridal party.

2.     Use blankets

3.     Wear shoes with traction. (So, you don’t slip and fall on the ice.)

For the rain, the umbrellas allowed us to get some pictures of the bride and groom outside and still protect them from the rain. Plus, the umbrellas add extra detail to the pictures. For the most part, we positioned everyone under awnings to keep everyone dry but were still able to have natural lighting and get photos outside. In both the rain and snow, these rain jackets protected our gear.

When it snowed, the hand warmers helped the bridal party get through the pictures because is was so cold! They were super helpful to us too! Our poor fingers were frozen after the post-wedding shots. We got creative with blankets and had the bridal party use them in some of the pictures. Also, we chose shoes with traction to prevent us from falling on the ice and for trudging through the snow.

Overall, I feel like we learned a lot during the first few weddings. We definitely were put to the test with the weather.
