It’s ok to repel (push away) people from your business.
Say, whaaat?
Yep, you read that right. It is ok to repel people (yes, even potential clients) from your business.
Let us explain by telling you how we found this to be true….
Back in the very beginning of our blogging days, (yes, we started this whole thing with a fashion blog!) our mission was to do just about anything to attract anyone to our site. We’d showcase our wardrobes, breakdown a craft that we thought was cool, and even explain how to bake a strawberry cake! We also took a few courses on blogging in general and read just about anything we could get our hands on that that shed any light on how to grow a following, and most of the time, we blindly followed whatever advise we read. One of the pieces of advise I read in a blogging course (I won’t say which one), discussed the importance of keeping religion off of your website because if you showed that you were a Christian, for example, and a non-believer showed up to your site, they’d instantly be turned away and you would have lost a follower.
I’ll be honest I deeply believed in that for awhile, but I have since learned quite the opposite. First of all, Hannah and I are not embarrassed to admit that we follow Jesus, in fact, we both know for certain that we would not be where we are if we didn’t trust Him thorough the ups and downs of this crazy entrepreneurial dream of ours. We’ve since discovered that it’s ok (even good) to attract and repel people from your site and business in general. If we can attract people into our business that appreciate us for who we are, veil removed, we will be much happier as we continue to work with them. That’s not to say that people who are not Jesus followers aren’t welcome to work with us or peruse our site, we actually think that if we (as in everyone in the world) would be honest about what we are passionate about and what keeps us grounded and inspired, we’d all be happier and feel more loved. That passion is infectious.
As Kasey Musgraves would say, “follow your arrow wherever it points,” and don’t be afraid to be exactly who you are online, in business, or in real life!
