Do you ever feel awkward in photos?

Ever get a pit in your stomach when your friend asks you to take a photo together because you know you are going to hate how your arms or waistline looks?

We know. We’ve been there.

We hope that feeling a little self conscious doesn’t hold you back from showing up in photos with your friends and family. Remember, at the end of the day, our memories can fade. Photos have the power to remind us of the good ole days.

You deserve to be in those memories!

So, if you are feeling self conscious, we are here to give you one of our favorite posing tips.

We teach our couples posing tips at their engagement sessions, and even a year after we’ve worked with them, we still see those tricks show up in their everyday photos!

It makes us feel like our job is done! 🙂

Pro Posing Tip: Pop Your Front Leg (the leg closest to the camera) rather than the back leg.

We know this might sound simple and silly, but trust us, it makes a difference.

If we asked you to show us how you would naturally pose in a photo, we would bet you would pop one of your legs. It’s something we, as ladies, almost instinctually do.

Our posing tip is to pop the FRONT leg because doing the reverse can actually make you look heavier than you really are.

What?!

Yep. Remember that saying “the camera adds ten pounds.”

We believe it’s not really the camera, it’s the posing.

A little camera insight for you:

Whatever is closest to the camera appears bigger.

Think about it for a minute. Let’s say you are taking a photo of two of your friends that are standing side by side. If one of the subjects takes two steps toward the camera, they would appear bigger and taller than the other person, simply because they are closer to the camera. It’s a perspective change.

The same thing happens with posing. If you pop your front leg, the majority of your body weight shifts TOWARD the camera, making you appear bigger than you actually are.

Conversely, popping your front leg shifts your weight backward, keeping that “camera adds 10 pounds” illusion from happening.

Popping your leg also creates a beautiful line from your shoulder all the way to your toe. Making your legs look longer and more slim as well.

There you have it! One of our many posing tricks for flattering your figure in front of the camera!
