It all started in college..

We began by reading blogs in our spare time in college. We were completely inspired by the lives bloggers were leading. We never thought it was possible to have a career that allowed someone to be so creative. We were completely enthralled by the idea. So, we decided to start a blog too. I can still recall the conversation Chelsea and I had. I remember saying how cool I thought blogs were, and I can remember her asking, “So do you think we should start one?” I can remember the first time we designed the website and chose our name. We had no clue how much work it would take to start a blog. It’s crazy to think that was five years ago.

Our first blog’s name was Virginia & Chay (which is both of our middle names). Then, we changed names to Music City Mavens, which was the last fashion blog we ran. We focused on the fashion blog for three years before switching to photography.

The blog was our first creative business..

We learned so much by starting the fashion blog. I don’t think we fully knew what we were getting ourselves into when we started. Not only did we have to be bloggers, but we had to be marketers, writers, and photographers too. We had to learn about lighting and composition. The blog is the reason we got into photography. It is the reason I got my first camera. For the longest time, we used by dad’s old Canon Rebel. Then, finally, we were able to afford buy our own cameras.

Why we changed to photography..

We love being creatives, and we love that the blog allowed us to be creative. We are visual people through and through, but after awhile, we started to feel an enormous amount of pressure to constantly have new clothes to post on the site. We were also constantly comparing ourselves to other bloggers. We always found ourselves wanting more and more. We weren’t feeling fulfilled, and we enjoyed photographing other people more than photographing ourselves.

We are so thankful we starting blogging. It gave us the outlet we needed to get through college! We learned so much about the business, ourselves, and each other! We will never regret starting the business that led us to photography! It was the perfect stepping stone to get us to where we are now!
