Why A Second Shooter Is Important

Wedding Tips, Weddings

Hiring a photographer that has a second shooter is important to the overall wedding day experience. Two photographers allows your timeline to run smoother and keeps you from spending too much time in front of the camera. Chelsea and I always talk through the benefits of having both of us on a wedding day instead of just one. We couldn’t imagine not having the other one for support, and we wouldn’t ever advise photographers to shoot a wedding alone or a bride to hire a photographer who didn’t have a second shooter. We have outlined a few benefits of there being two photographers on a wedding day.

1. It helps keep the timeline on track.

Having two photographers means more can be done in a limited amount of time. Pictures can be taken quickly and more efficiently. Chelsea and I always send a timeline to our brides that outlines were each of us will be and when. We always separate at different points on the wedding day. For example,  Chelsea photographers the girls getting ready and the bridesmaids portraits. Hannah photographers the guys getting read and the groomsmen portraits. If there is no first look, we try to take family formals with just the bride and her side of the family and the groom and his side of the family.

2. Every moment gets captured.

We don’t miss a moment! During the ceremony, we make sure to get every reaction! Chelsea focuses in on the brides reaction and Hannah focuses in on the groom. We make sure to get the individual reactions for every milestone moment of the day! Even during the reception, we make sure to capture every laugh and happy tear during the dances and toasts!

3. You will have more variety in your final gallery.

Since there are two of us, we always make sure to tell our brides who to look at. While one of us is the primary photographer, the other gets more creative shots. Having two photographers means you will get even more images back in your final gallery. You will not only get traditional shots of everyone and smiling and looking at the camera, but also more editorial shots that are both close up and far way.
