After reading the title, you might think I’m crazy. Who doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s day? Well, I guess you can call me a rebel (camera pun intended), but my husband and I have decided not to celebrate it. When we first started dating in 2011, we did. I made my husband (boyfriend at the time) a giant Hershey’s kiss out of rice crispy treats and he put flowers in my locker at school.
Eventually, we got to a point in our relationship where we felt like Valentine’s day wasn’t that exciting. It wasn’t true to us to celebrate it. Why, you may be wondering?
- We believe we should show love for each other everyday. We don’t pick one day out of the year to show appreciation for each other. We strive to do that everyday.
- People put too much pressure on Valentine’s day. The ones who don’t have a significant other feel bad, while the ones who do feel pressured to celebrate it.
- We choose to surprise each other on random, totally normal days.
I honestly don’t mean to sound negative. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this holiday. I mean, I love boxes of chocolate and flowers!
But since I don’t celebrate it, instead of sharing Valentine’s Date Ideas, I’ve decided to share my favorite dates to do with my husband for absolutely no other reason than to be together.
- Friday Movie Night– A great way to kick off the weekend. We put on our favorite pajamas and eat pizza, popcorn, and our favorite ice cream.
- Dinner Out– We love to randomly dress up and go out to our favorite restaurant.
- Dinner In– I normally don’t like to cook, but it’s always more fun when my husband and I choose a new meal to test out.
- Go For A Drive- Call us old souls, but sometimes the best date is just driving on Tennessee back roads, listening to music, while we are hand in hand.
For those of you who like Valentine’s Day, that’s awesome because it is true to YOU! My husband and I don’t because it isn’t for us. So, if you choose to celebrate Valentine’s day, then I hope these date night ideas allow you and your favorite guy to spend some quality time together!
