Chelsea and I have been working together for almost three years now. We’ve known each other for almost seven years. Time flies by so quickly!
We’ve always enjoyed working on projects together and exercising the creative part of our brains. I can remember back to our high school days when Chelsea and I painted her dad’s entire living room and even planned to help him redecorate his house. Basically, we are both visual people through and through, which is why we love photography!
I’ve heard people say in the past that it’s hard to work with friends. However, that has never been the case for us. Chelsea and I have always worked well together. It probably helps that we have similar personalities and taste (which makes shopping for each other super easy). In fact, we are so similar that people have mistaken us for sisters and even twins on occasion.
Working together is not only fun, but it also takes a lot of stress away. There are so many reasons why we love working together.
Here are a few:
1. Communication is easier.
2. We have a similar style.
3. We share similar values.
4. We can encourage each other.
While we are in the beginning stages of our business, I know we will learn more about each other and grow more individually. I know there will be challenges along the way, but honestly, I can’t wait to tackle them together. I couldn’t ask for a better business partner, and most importantly, I couldn’t ask for a better friend.
If you are contemplating going into business with a friend, then here are a few tips and ideas to consider.
1. How well do you know them? It is important to make sure the person you go into business with is someone who you share values and can easily communicate with. Chelsea and I have known each other for years! So, we know each other’s values are in line.
2. Establish your brand early on. Make sure you and your potential business partner have a vision from the very beginning. As I said, Chelsea and I have a similar style; however, that may not be the case for you. Identify your ideal client, so you and your friend have a cohesive brand.
3. Know your limits. Be aware of what you each bring to the table. While Chelsea and I are very similar, we also share some differences that make us an even stronger team. For example I have more of a business mind, and Chelsea has more of a creative mind. We each shine in our own way, and we each make the other better as a result.
Going into business with my best friend is something I will never regret. I am beyond blessed to be going through this season of life with her. We both complement each other well.
Are you considering going into business with a friend? I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject?
